Rain Lily (Zephyranthes )

Botanical Name: Zephyranthes candida
Common Name: Rain Lily

Rain lily (Zephyranthes) is a genus of temperate and tropical bulbous plants in the Amaryllis family.  Common names for species in this genus include fairy lily, rainflower, zephyr lily, magic lily, Atamasco lily, and rain lily.

Zephyranthes

If you're unfamiliar with the rain lily, you might mistake this flower for a crocus, as they are similar in size and shape.

Zephyranthes produce crocus-like starry flowers and fine grassy like leaves that can be evergreen in some varieties. Flowers range in colour from white, pink or yellow, depending on the species.

An individual flower will only last a few days, with the heaviest flush of blooms occurring first. The bulbs may bloom occasionally throughout the rest of the season, especially after heavy wotering.

Rain lily bulbs multiply rapidly and after only a few years you could have many mature bulbs.

Rain lilies are well-suited for container gardening, making them a great choice for balcony gardens or small spaces.

Great for rockeries, pots and border planting, Zephyranthes are another low maintenance bulb that you can plant and forget.
